OUR STORY:

In 2006, Jim and Maggi Dalton, together with several colleagues from the educational, professional, and musical fields, founded a new nonprofit organization, The Institute for Music, History, and Cultural Traditions.

IMHCT.ORG was founded to foster a broader and richer understanding of (and love for) the importance of music in human history, in creative, entertaining, engaging and innovative ways. To expand that mission, and extend that vision, the Institute produces the American History and Music Festival (TM).

The American History and Music Festival (TM) will combine historical music and local history programs, offered to the public throughout the North Shore and in Boston, Mass. In addition, the Festival will sponsor in-school educational programs for children K-12, at the college level, and in community centers for adult populations.

Each program will feature, in addition to musical performances and concerts, a local history component in collaboration with local cultural, educational, and artistic nonprofit organizations in each town in which a Festival Event is held. Proceeds from Festival performances will help to fund the educational services of the parent organization, IMHCT.ORG.

Three concerts are planned for the inaugural year, in the North of Boston and Boston region. First event: Salem, Dec. 28, 2008. Second and Third events: Locations, Dates and Times TBA.

While openly embracing all world cultures,
our focus will be, in general,

RECOMMENDED RESOURCES (WORLDWIDE)
PLEASE NOTE: A FULL DIRECTORY OF RESOURCES
WILL BE BUILT ON THIS WEBSITE IN THE COMING YEAR.

The Folklore Society (FLS) was founded in 1878 and was one of the first organisations in the world devoted to the study of traditional culture. The term 'folklore' describes the overarching concept that holds together a number of aspects of vernacular culture and cultural traditions, and is also the name of the discipline which studies them.

The Folklore Society's interest and expertise covers topics such as traditional music, song, dance and drama, narrative, arts and crafts, customs and belief. We are also interested in popular religion, traditional and regional food, folk medicine, children's folklore, traditional sayings, proverbs rhymes and jingles.

Under the terms of the registration of our charitable status, our aims are to foster folklore research and recording worldwide, and to make the results of such study available to all, whether members of the Society or not
